Ghettopoly

Welp, after so much scrutiny, the creator of Ghettopoly, David Chang, has a message for the haters out there... Taken from the Ghettopoly website:

Should we also ban every single comedian who cracks jokes about Asians? Is Jay Leno a racist because he made a comment about Asian people eating dogs? How about Snoop Dog, on his TV show on MTV, is he a racist too? What do you think when Rappers rap about "Chinky eyes" or "eyes slanted like", should they be called racist also. Or how about the broken English Asians who are portrayed in Black Movies, are the people who laugh, all racist? First off, for those of you who say, "why don't you make Chinkopoly ?" The word Chink is a Racist word, Ghetto is not. The last time I checked, there may be one Asian rapper on MTV, even then you would probably ask me who he is. Simply, there would not be enough interest in the American market place, because being an Asian in this Country is not consider too "Hip". Did you ever see an Asian action figure? And those that say "OH OH, he used the word Ghetto" that must mean he thinks all African Americans are just the images than that are in the game. First off, there are all ethnic groups portrayed in Ghettopoly. Including Asians, Irish, Jewish, Hispanics, Whites, and Italians, just like any "Ghetto". It's a shame that when the news media decided to turn something into a story, they only film or speak of the black properties that's in the game. They always fail to mention cards and properties that are of other ethnicity. Remember, the game is called Ghettopoly not Blackopoly. I hope from this message some of you should know that I am not a racist person, but someone who decided to make a game that we all can enjoy and relate to. And what is so wrong with a game that not made by your everyday corporations. When I play with a traditional board game with my friends, it simply does not appeal to me much. To your dismay, Hip Hop Culture is what I gravitate towards, so naturally when I decided to make a game, I want to give it an urban edge. Stereotypes are everywhere, when you flip to MTV or BET you do not often see the same images and lyrics, rappers rapping about sipping on 40's, pimping hoes, smoking the chronics, slinging crack rocks, wicked jump shots. So with that said, I think before you pass judgment on my game, you should just see it for what it is. It is just a game. It's not so different from what’s already out there in the entertainment media in America. So if this game should be banned than there are tons of other forms of entertainments that also need to be banned. Just because you don't find this game funny and original, it does not give you the right to call me a racist or worst yet, try to ban it. However you do have every right not to buy it. I also think that some of you, not all, who wrote and called me all those nasty names are simply mad because you didn't think of Ghettopoly first. I am sorry that my last name is of Asian decent, maybe if my last name was different, some of you might not be so harsh.

Now, what trips me out is, because I haven't seen this game up close, however, when you go to the site, the main image is someone with a rag on his head, a gold toofus 40 in one hand, Tek 9 in the other...

He's black, and this is also the face on the money.

Next image that is prominently seen is the Just Loitering space, some dude with a hat on and some jewlery, dressed in all purple...

He looks black too.

So for this guy to say that there are other ethnicities in the game, yet display persons of color prominently, someone is talking out of the side of his neck.

Second, if you can use your free speech right to market this game, people have the right to criticize and protest you. It works both ways, homie.

More commentary after I eat, lol...

(a 3pc and a biscuit later...)

okay... #3, this joker invokes his 'hip-hop' culture as an influence. This, my peoples, is bullshit. This is a game in which owning crackhouses and projects are encouraged. Last I checked, most rappers (and people in general) are trying to LEAVE said places. And people in hip hop hardly drink 40s anymore, so this cat is misinformed or perpetrating the stereotype, because if he was all into hip hop culture he would know that. And its one thing for black folk to talk about black folk, ITS US, some shit is not for random people to point out and laugh at/try to make a buck on.

One thing I am tired of is the whole raping of black culture and life for other people's enjoyment. Wiggas and the like can dress, talk, and even act 'urban'-not black, you cannot act black, you either ARE or ARE NOT-and think this is cool from their cul-de-sacs, but they would not ever LIVE the urban life. They want the pleasure without the pain. That gets NO respect here in Bolivion, and we may have to throw him in the Bolivion State Pen, where there is 24 hours of listening to Jacko's 'Blood on the Dance Floor' EP...

Ok, I'm done ranting...

In Other News...

Southern California is on Fire, but the bad kind, as brush fires all over the place are destroying homes, some of these fires allegedly were set deliberately. I hope that firebug gets caught, mainly because that is just foul.

This man has got to be kidding me! His justification is so weak and disgusting. Max, you took the words right out of my mouth. When I went to the website all I saw were (caricature) images of gigantic lipped, gold capped, unkept black people with scarves on their heads. I did not see any other color. It was clearly a mockery of my diasporic people. I saw nothing about Irish,Italian, Australian, Japanese or any other orgin. This man is clearly trying to feed off of the social ills within the Black American community to fill his own belly.

I don't think he was (originally) trying to make any kind of political statement. I know sometimes people will confuse personal ignorance for political statements, but something like this DOES become a political issue when money is being made. How can we silently stand by while some cat blatantly disrespects an entire race? You can not compare a comedian to this board game. The board game doesn't just have one small racial element the WHOLE board game is based on the mockery of (supposed) black American culture. None of the comedians that he mentioned do "race only" stand up. So his comparison boggles me... and quite frankly, it's lame.

As for "ghetto" not being a racist term. There is a difference between use and usage. Depending on the USAGE of that word it can be translated as a racist remark. In this case (and most others) it IS A RACIST REMARK. He needs to go some where else with the bull. The smoke and lights will not help his feable argument. This is a case of pretension winning out graciousness. He needs to take an L on this one and bow out as gracefully as he can. It's offensive point blank.

Chang deserves a mouth shot just for being to dense to see why this game is offensive. Jay Leno don't have anything to do with this chink sucka sitting down to craft a game that clearly and intentionally exploits poor, black people. That explanation was garbage and I can't add anymore to what you said...well stated Max! Grrr, I'mma be one angry black girl for the rest of the day...
