In Other News...

I crossed the picket line at the grocery store today to pick up some coffee, and that was the cheapest place. I know, that was wrong, but the picketers didn;t put up a struggle, I think because there was NO ONE inside; maybe like 2-3 people at the most.

But last night I was on an AIM convo with Martha and I had a small epiphany.

Los Angeles is a half ass union town. Some may say it is not union at all. However, there are 2 strikes going on (Groceries, which I think is more national and Bus Mechanics) and these people are twisting in the wind. And, there are more pending (Sherriff Department, State workers). But last year there were a couple of strikes that COULD have happened; one with Writers and one with Directors. Needless to say, those strikes were averted.

No Atlanta Trip for Me...

The brakes on my car just went completely out. I was parking at the time so there was not a crash or no shit.

If it were not for this bus strike out here, I could have probably skated on getting brakes done until I got back, but there's no fall back, so tha devil in a blue dress (yes, I call my car that, instead of daphne) needs her maintenance. And since I have limited funds, they have to go long term instead of short.

The fact that I can't go makes me real upset. I was going to see a few good friends of mine. Max does not have that many friends, so the ones I have I try to see as often as possible. That hasn't been much lately. They are an understanding lot tho, so no one is TOO pissed except me.

But I think something different is on the horizon. Not necessarily better (well, maybe) but it is different.

Welp, after so much scrutiny, the creator of Ghettopoly, David Chang, has a message for the haters out there... Taken from the Ghettopoly website:

And what is so wrong with a game that not made by your everyday corporations. When I play with a traditional board game with my friends, it simply does not appeal to me much. To your dismay, Hip Hop Culture is what I gravitate towards, so naturally when I decided to make a game, I want to give it an urban edge. Stereotypes are everywhere, when you flip to MTV or BET you do not often see the same images and lyrics, rappers rapping about sipping on 40's, pimping hoes, smoking the chronics, slinging crack rocks, wicked jump shots. So with that said, I think before you pass judgment on my game, you should just see it for what it is. It is just a game. It's not so different from what’s already out there in the entertainment media in America. So if this game should be banned than there are tons of other forms of entertainments that also need to be banned. Just because you don't find this game funny and original, it does not give you the right to call me a racist or worst yet, try to ban it. However you do have every right not to buy it. I also think that some of you, not all, who wrote and called me all those nasty names are simply mad because you didn't think of Ghettopoly first. I am sorry that my last name is of Asian decent, maybe if my last name was different, some of you might not be so harsh.

okay... #3, this joker invokes his 'hip-hop' culture as an influence. This, my peoples, is bullshit. This is a game in which owning crackhouses and projects are encouraged. Last I checked, most rappers (and people in general) are trying to LEAVE said places. And people in hip hop hardly drink 40s anymore, so this cat is misinformed or perpetrating the stereotype, because if he was all into hip hop culture he would know that. And its one thing for black folk to talk about black folk, ITS US, some shit is not for random people to point out and laugh at/try to make a buck on.

One thing I am tired of is the whole raping of black culture and life for other people's enjoyment. Besides, there are always too many kiddie movie tie-ins. And those huge cups from back in the day they don't do no more...

But anyone who has paid a slight amount of attention to Mickey D's latest and not-so-greatest campaigns should have seen this coming a mile away.

For instance, there was that shit with the rapping Romeo and Juliet, for that ill-fated Chicken Pita sandwich I think. For one, why would they rap a school play (ok it was supposed to be a dream sequence, but still). For that matter, how many niggas you know eat pita-ANYTHING? I know of personally, none. Maybe one, but his blackness is called into question a lot lol....

Then there was this commercial they would only show on BET (before I got mad disgusted with IT) where these kids were in a cypher outside of a McDonalds. This was only bad because the rapping was bad.

The mechanics and the clerks are striking because their health care plans are undergoing drastic changes, thanks in part to Wal-Mart, who does not have really good plans for their employees... it's a major issue in both strikes, but not the only one...

Still, I wonder what would be so wrong with a National Health Care system. I mean, the U.S. spends money on EVERYTHING else, and taxpayers complain about it. More that I think about it, taxpayers complain about everything, but this is too much to think about right now, lol.

Why I hate The Source, BET and Urban Radio

Am I Wrong for hating The Source? and BET? and Urban Radio?

I don't think so they seem to be part of the same monster.

There was a time when I seriously wanted to do radio, (by the way if anyone wants to hear my aircheck, email me LOL) especially black radio, but its too fucked up for me now. Don't get me wrong, I was loving the fact that for the first time in Billboard history, the top 10 songs were all hip-hop on the POP charts. That's saying something about how far hip hop has come, but what a price.

In order for sales to go up, quality has gone down, there is rarely a classic album these days, some shit u can pull out the rack years from now, like an ATLiens, or Low End Theory, or even efil4zaggin (NIGGAZ4LIFE).

Nowadays, the best song on an album is the single, and everthing else sucks.

And the RIAA wonders why people download. Singles are hardly ever sold anymore, so you buy the CD and find out its crap... can you take it back? nope, the best you can hope for is to sell it at the local Used CD shop, for like 1/3 of what you paid for it.

And radio plays the same 4 songs over and over, even on the mix shows! Prime example: when So Fresh, So Clean came out, I saw the video on BET for months before it was ever heard on a station out here in Cali... know what I DID hear? Eminem, Jigga, and NELLY AND JA RULE ALL THE FUCKIN TIME... that pissed me off to no end and it was then I started to reconsider my radio career. So, I started writing instead.

I really have no more words for BET, I haven't watched it in months. Even when I did watch it, it was BET UnCut, which was the most original program ON BET. And since they did that Jazz concert in a slave castle shit I was through... with a cracka on the piano no less (not dissing her, because she could play, but that was real fucked up on whoever's part that decided to do that shit.

And BET is LIKE Urban Radio these days, playin the same 8 videos every hour. Cept for comic view. And they have BET News for like 30 minutes, at the hour when everyone tryin to get the freak on, I swear I would program some of those video shows out of fuckin existence. They have way too much space to fill, I say, fill it wit shit we can't see no more, like old episodes of What's Happening, or even Good Times or the Jeffersons, I heard at one point THEY were gonna do The Boondocks cartoon until they dissed BET.

I miss Emerge. A real black news magazine, something Ebony USED to be, til it got all up on that celebrity vibe... I thought that was what Jet was for?

Maybe I just need to stop hatin huh? LOL. I might be too hard on black media.

I just kinda had to read the article Antonio was talking about on Lauryn Hill in Rolling Stone, and here it is.

I really don't know what to say, and this is rare for someone who says anything about everything. Welp, if it is we will find out this week. Monday was so hectic I didn't even get a chance to post the Week 5 recap. I overslept this morning and was rushing out, then my car caught smoke again, so I had to park it at the mall and hop on the bus to get to class 15 minutes late, where i was chided by my professor for not putting enough time into my script. Add to that forgetting (to buy) an English book that I will need more than I thought this semester and it was not a good day to be Max in a class...

Next we have DMV hell, with me standing in line for a half hour to get a lil brown change-of-address card. Which reminds me, I need to renew m license sooner than later because after 1-1-04, the place will be flooded with illegal immigrants trying to get licenses. Then I go to the bank, get money, and smile.

To help out someone with some research I go back to UCLA's research library, which I could not find in da dark. I didn't get too far in the daylight either, as I wound up walking the perimeter of campus before finding the library, right smack dab in the middle. I made that wayyyy too hard. But once I got there I found what I was looking for rather easily (articles on Pan-Africanism and Marcus Garvey). I copy them, get ready to go home and I am locked out... DAMMIT, so I spend time at UCLA (which I coulda used to work on my script) playing Guilty Gear XX and SNK vs Capcom, and I didn't get home til midnight.

I missed a damn good Monday Night Football game, and, the Red Sox beating the A's to get the privledge of losing to the Yankees.

I put this here mainly, because it is October 1. Hockey season starts, and in 3 weeks, the NBA, which is what I have to look forward to now that the Sox tanked and the Bears are pitiful.

School has been in for a month, and I have yet to see any financial aid money. Add to this the fact that I have to re-apply for loans n shit, and I may not see any aid til Christmas, which, may or may not be a bad thing.

I finally got into Speakerboxxx on the way to class this morning. This shit is hot, I copped both CDs for 11.99 at Tower, and I am glad I did.

The work is starting to pile up in my classes, but I am not trippin. For once.

I may cop a seasonal at Best Buy this year. I heard they discount was decent.
